Paving innovations more than 10years

Sound in science - at home in practice.

Smart Site One leverages more than ten years of experience in digitizing construction processes to combine cutting-edge approaches from informatics research (AI, Big Data, distributed systems) with intelligent construction methods.

We regularly participate in publicly funded research projects with various partner networks in order to remain the innovation leader in the industry.

Europe's largest research consortium in the field of artificial intelligence.

Cyber Valley is Europe's largest research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) with partners from politics, science, business and society.

Cyber Valley strengthens research and education in the fields of machine learning, computer vision and robotics as well as the exchange between scientific disciplines. By promoting the exchange between science and industry as well as spin-offs, the technology transfer in this central future field is strengthened.

Cyber Valley is located in the Stuttgart-Tübingen region and is supported by the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Smart Site Solutions GmbH is a member of the Cyber Valley startup network.

Artificial intelligence and mobile working machines (2021-2024)

In the KINERA research project, Smart Site Solutions is developing and testing methods for automatically deriving work status and task performance from sensor data from mobile machines. With the results, we are increasing the degree of automation of Smart Site One at various points. Among other things, the methods developed allow tasks assigned to subcontractors to be monitored in a more automated way than was previously possible.

Digital ecosystem for end-to-end networked planning and implementation of infrastructure construction projects (2021-2022)

Together with numerous partners from science and construction practice, the consortium developed and tested a common platform for cross-company, standardized data exchange in large infrastructure projects. Smart Site One integrates into the platform and automatically coordinates the ove
rall scheduling with the detailed scheduling and work progress analysis carried out in SSO.

The results of the research project were presented to an expert audience from politics, science and industry at a final event.

Quality Road Construction Baden-Württemberg 4.0 (2017-2018)

The direct successor of the SmartSite research project. The SmartSite consortium translated the findings from the research project into operational construction practice in follow-up funding from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport. Today, the "QSBW4.0 Manual" is the basis for the tendering practice of the public sector in Baden-Württemberg.

Smart technologies for intelligent road construction (2013-2016)

The vision of the research project was fully autonomous, quality-assured and resource-saving road construction. To this end, fully automated construction machines (rollers & pavers) and fully automated process control (logistics) were developed and tested under practical conditions in the project. The findings were exploited in the follow-up project QSBW4.0.

Autonomous control in construction site logistics (2009-2013)

AutoBauLog used concepts of Distributed Artificial Intelligence and autonomy for the first time to actively control earthworks sites. The research project explored completely new approaches to decentralized decision-making and construction site control and tested them in a scenario with real construction machinery. The research project laid the conceptual foundations for the follow-up project SmartSite in the field of asphalt paving.

Direct impact of our research: Quality Road Construction Baden-Wuerttemberg 4.0 (QSBW 4.0)

"With Smart Site, Quality Road Construction 4.0, road construction is entering the digital age. With Smart Site, construction sites are handled completely digitally [...]. The construction process will be faster than ever before [...] and construction quality will be significantly increased."

From the "Digitalization Report of the State Government of Baden-Wuerttemberg," May 2018
