QSBW4.0 - Leading in quality
With QSBW4.0, the German federal state Baden-Wuerttemberg is leading the digitization of road construction. At its core, QSBW4.0 is about increasing the paving quality through the use of digital technologies, e.g. for intelligent logistics control or for area-wide compaction control.
Construction work is already being put out to tender in accordance with the recommendations in the QSBW4.0 handbook.
In the future, it is planned to develop QSBW4.0 step by step into the standard procedure for road construction in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

What does Quality Road Construction Baden-Württemberg 4.0 mean?
QSBW4.0 combines digital high-tech solutions and transfers them into a standard construction method. Central elements are:
Dynamic logistics control

Machine control
You can control your machines (milling machine, paver, roller) with your systems. With Smart Site One, you are not tied to any particular manufacturer.
With our partner Völkel Mikroelektronik GmbH, we are happy to offer you a total solution for the required compaction and temperature monitoring.
Quality controlling
Smart Site One helps you create the required QM plan.
With SSO, you monitor and document all data required by the client, including:
- Loading temperature
- Planned temperature upon arrival at the site
- Actual travel time
- Paving speed
Mobile networking
A (mobile) Internet connection is required for the use of networked, digital systems in QSBW4.0. According to QSBW4.0, this must be ensured across the paving route.
With Smart Site One, you benefit from this mobile networking: Your crew is always up to date and has an overview of all relevant data.
Dynamic control.
Smart Site One - The dynamic logistics control for QSBW4.0
Smart Site One meets all QSBW4.0 requirements for dynamic logistics control:
- GPS tracking of all transport vehicles
- Digital connection of the mixing plants
- Automated recognition of the paver's working status (e.g. moving, maneuvering, paving)
- Automated recognition of the working status of the trucks (e.g. docking & undocking, driving, loading, waiting, pausing)
- Continuous rescheduling of the logistics process
- Automated detection of implausible work statuses and measured values and their automatic correction
- Interfaces to upstream systems, e.g. GPS positioning of the paver, measurement of pave width at the paver, digital delivery notes
- Recording and provision of digital data for each load, including license plate number, tonnage, mix type, actual loading time, planned and actual travel time
- Display of all essential information in a live dashboard via smartphones and tablets, including access for the client
